This is my fourth year as a teacher but everyday is a learning experience for me. My third graders have a lot of expectations of standards, pressure from grades and testing, and several work hours during the day. I want my students to be able to enjoy learning while reflecting their age at the same time. Forcing eight and nine year old children to work and stay in a chair can be tiresome. Sitting on the tile floor is not much better. That is where I want to come in and make a change. In my class we do A LOT of interactive and shared reading. I read to them, we read together, and then they read with a partner or independently on a daily basis. An atmosphere where they are excited to read and learn while wiggling and wobbling may sound a bit overwhelming to some, BUT I believe it will be so beneficial. Having the Wobble stools, flex bands and cushions to rotate throughout the day would make a huge difference for my students. Releasing energy is so important (15 minutes of recess is not enough) for kids at this age. Being able to create flexible seating for my classroom through Donors Choose is so exciting and encouraging. Having people support public education is truly a blessing.
