My students came to me one day and asked for me to be the advisor for an after school book club. As an English teacher, there was no way I could say no. The students worked by themselves to gauge interest, choose appropriate and interesting books, and complete paperwork. All they needed was an advisor... and materials, of course. The materials my students are requesting will help them to lead and engage in discussions about literature in an after school book club. The book club will promote critical thinking and lifelong learning as students read on their own time and meet regularly for thoughtful discussions and reflections. Students chose the books Hate List by Jennifer Brown and A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro because they are relatable, interesting, and powerful novels. Your donation will change our students' lives by providing them with an enriching after school activity that also challenges they way they think and interact.
