These books will make a big difference for my students' learning experience because it will give them access to modern books that have characters from different cultures. We have "First Chapter Friday" each week when I read the first chapter of a new book to the class. The students then can check these books out for choice reading time. If the students are learning from home, I will still use these books for "First Chapter Friday" videos. If we are in a hybrid model, I'm hoping the students will be able to check these books out and read them at home. All students have the right to see themselves in the characters they read about as well as ones that are different from them. These books will help to diversity my classroom library so all students can find books they can relate to. These novels will help students see through other lenses, build empathy, and become compassionate global citizens.
