These dramatic play materials will help support my students' social and emotional skills which are so important to build in young learners right from the beginning of Kindergarten. Social interactions are not only desired (especially in the times of COVID social distancing) but integral in Kindergarten to solidify a child's learning and development. Each day my Kindergarteners will be given a full hour with these materials to learn appropriate social skills such as taking turns, waiting, staying on topic, empathy, and listening thus, maximizing their learning opportunities. These materials will give my students the opportunity to express joy and laughter as they get to know each other and learn how to interact with each other building social, emotional, and communication skills all through dramatic play. To many, 'play' has been taken out of the curriculums in the primary years as it was seen as unproductive and only something one does in their leisure time. But, through recent research and studies, 'play' has risen to the top again as important, even essential, to a child's all-rounded development. Through play, my students will not only grow in social and emotional ways, but also in the areas of math, literacy, organization, and communication. Kindergarteners are learners with immense imaginations and who love hands-on learning. These materials are the perfect reinforcement for my students to practice these valuable skills.
