About my class

STEM is an ever growing part of our society. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields are becoming an even more present part of our economy and therefore a more critical component to how we teach our young scholars. STEM education helps to facilitate critical thinkers, creators, innovators, and problem solvers both in the classroom setting and in the real world. As an educator, I want to help prepare my students for the future that lies ahead and give them the tools to help them be successful in our growing economy. This possible only by integrating these components into daily instruction. By nature, STEM naturally provides opportunities for constant movement, self reflection, self pacing and monitoring of learning, ownership of work, and a respectful team environment. All of these skills are needed in any work place. These real world experiences are a critical component in education. My special education students deserve the opportunity to learn 21st century skills using materials that best fit their developmental needs and levels. STEM learning opportunities provide fluid assistance by building off students' strengths and utilizing technological and physical supports that are not always present in traditional learning settings. Every student in my class is blessed with strengths that are not always seen at the surface level in a general education setting. With these tools, we can better help support them in making strides in their educational career and showcase my scholars' learning. Using the materials we have selected, we plan to incorporate various STEM challenges into every day learning opportunities during work stations, independent explorations, and facilitated group activities. We want these projects to be use every day in some capacity to help assist in both abstract and concrete learning. Utilizing the iPad will help integrate assistive technology, research, educational apps and display learning.
