I plan to offer animal-assisted interventions on the individual, small group and classroom basis. With supplies such as a dog crate and jerky treats I will be able to bring Walter the therapy dog to school more frequently; they will also allow me to keep my classroom door open for quick "pick me up pets." The allergen blocker spray and the dander mitt also help me keep those with allergies unaffected. Walter will be able to provide emotional support to students experiencing trauma and/or emotional crises; he will be utilized in small groups to provide an avenue for positive peer interaction, improved social skills, and shared experiences to build social bonds. These social-emotional skills are an essential in laying a solid foundation in the lives of our students.
