At our school, we have divided the fifth grade curriculum in three blocks. I teach the science/health and informational writing block to 100 students every day. There are vast cultural and socioeconomic differences in the student body at our school. 43.4% of students are identified as Hispanics and 58.4% are eligible for free or reduced lunch. A little more than half of our students are English speakers. Some students have been educated in English, but speak another language at home.
