The use of hands on activities allows our students to dive head first into learning how to read while building the love of reading. Sight words help students become fluent readers and kick starts their reading. With the use of hands-on sight words activities, students who need to create and do, are given the opportunity to do so. They can experience sight words, and build them. By giving them sight words games, they build their fluency in sight words while having fun and enjoying the learning process. My students are more engaged and less disruptive when they are given a hands on way to experience what they are learning. While many of my students are ready for being hands on with sight words, I also have students who are still working on their letters which are the fundamentals and building block of every reader. These students need activities and items which will help not only capture their attention, but help them remember. By having boards they can use their fingers on, they see the magic of creating letter shapes come to life as they move their finger around on the board. With the sensory tub, they are able to search for the letters. With the beads, they can start to string letters together in order to form words and begin to create sight words.
