Teachers in our school do not get a lot of supply money year to year, and often make and print materials they need in the classroom. A few examples would be cards used to practice high frequency words, posters and charts used during Readers and Writer's workshop, and math fact flashcards. With regular practice and use of these materials, students make growth in areas that are often neglected, including fact fluency and sight word knowledge, but are necessary to achieve higher level learning. These types of materials are consumable and need to be replaced and remade frequently. UNLESS they are laminated. A quick film of plastic protection will protect these items so they can be used time after time without spending the time, energy, and resources to remake them year after year. We have always had a laminator in our building, but it broke beyond repair in the spring and we do not have funding to replace it.
