My goal is to raise funds to purchase 20 student desks, so that each of my Title 1 students has the opportunity to learn from a place of pride and excitement. My hard-working students are in a Title 1 elementary school in Concord, NC. They have been learning from home, with the exception of a few weeks, since March 13th, 2020, These students do not always have the tools they need to be successful in remote learning. During online class meeting, I see kids slumped on couches, propped on pillows on beds, sitting at the kitchen table, and sitting on the floor. These factors contribute to low student engagement from remote learning. Students deserve to have a desk and learning space of their own; to have a sense of pride and ownership, to help them realize their full potential. Having their own desk will improve children’s attitude and willingness to engage in their education. Students will no longer experience the stress of knowing their materials might be displaced, misplaced or devalued because of dinner, tv watching or even sleeping. Your donation will bring each child an important tool to help them focus, learn, complete assignments, and grow as individuals, and be on equal footing with their peers. Having their own desk will help students develop positive decision-making skills as they learn to have materials organized and close by their desk during class time. Students will be able to establish a positive routine, allowing them to experience ownership and confidence that they have their own learning space.
