I have used an Elmo camera in my old school and I saw first hand the students' confidence grow throughout the year in my class. I usually start the year telling my students that by the end of the year, my goal is to have each of you be able to come up in front of the classroom and teach your peers something you discovered and not get nervous. About 75% of my students give me that petrified look and shake their heads. I have been teaching for 8 years and each year, I achieve this goal. This Elmo helps my students feel comfortable sharing their "own" ideas and teaching the class how they got their answers. As we all know, students thrive on technology. If I could help students thrive in my classroom using technology, it's a win for all of us. This Elmo helps me teach my students not only curriculum, but it also helps students understand how to respectfully debate and how rewarding it is when your peers think your idea is great. As a teacher, I love that moment when a shy, quiet student comes up to the board to show "their" way of working out a problem and everyone in the classroom praises him/her and starts to use this child's way, because it is easier. The confidence that child gains is indescribable. This is why I teach....because of the kids.
