As a new agriculture teacher at a small rural school, I will be bringing a more scientific aspect to the curriculum. I am requesting dissection tools so students can complete dissections of ruminant and monogastric digestive systems, or to complete dissections on reproductive tracts when we are studying animal reproduction. We need beakers and graduated cylinders to teach students not only how to properly use this equipment, but to also complete activities illustrating respiration, or an inquiry based lab on how diseases are transmitted. Having this equipment available to us in our classroom will allow students to physically engage with their content to not only study, but apply scientific principles studied in our agriculture classes. I also have a goal of bringing an agriscience fair to our school where students will all complete scientific research projects related to agriculture. Before I can effectively implement that, I need to make a scientific connection to agriculture in our classroom. This has not been previously done and there is no science equipment available for my classes currently.
