The standing active desks that we are requesting allow students to stay focused on their learning, while at the same time, provide the opportunity for the much needed release of energy. Our population of students all have disabilities and the majority of them have symptoms that make sitting for long periods of time challenging and frustrating. These non-intrusive learning desks and stools will help. The desks/stools are adjustable to the appropriate height of the student. Standing allows the student movement. For a child with ADHD, movement is a necessity. Furthermore, there is a built in sway bar at the bottom of the desk that allows the student to move a foot back and forth during class. This again is non-intrusive. The matching stool allows the student to sit fully on it or lean against the stool as needed. This variety of motions and options allows the student to custom fit his/her needs while focusing on their work. More and more businesses across the country are also realizing the importance of having standing desks for their employees. From ergonomics, to energy release, to lessening fatigue, to healthier bodies, the standing desk is finding its way into schools and businesses. I have witnessed their use in other schools and was immediately impressed. I saw students actively engaged in learning for longer periods of time. Why didn't someone come up with this sooner!
