I have 25 fabulous first graders who are constantly engaging in collaborative projects that bring science, math, and technology together. Our 21st classroom is filled with students that yearn to build their knowledge and skills. Students will be working in collaborative groups to build haunted houses, gingerbread houses, and castles. In addition, these budding scientists will be challenged to figure out a way to create a shadow blocker for Punxsatawney Phil on Groundhog Day! My students need 5 Chromebooks so they can research and develop their building plans. With the Chromebooks, students will be able to demonstrate and record their finished collaborative projects using an online portfolio. In this way each family can view their child’s work online. Not only will these projects increase students’ engagement and motivation, they will prepare them for a 21st century world. We are “building” lifelong learners who know how to research and present knowledge using technology in multiple ways.
