Did you know there are three main parts to our brain? The first is the brain stem, EVERYTHING we see/hear/taste/touch/smell has to go through our brain stem. If we are in a “fight or flight” mode (worried about something or distracted by something) we won’t learn because our brain gets “stuck” there. As a teacher, my job is to help my students feel loved, connected and safe so that they can “get out of that brain stem” and learn the curriculum. One of the BEST ways to do that is to get that oxygen-rich blood up to their brain through movement so they can focus. Traditional classrooms aren’t set up for that to happen. Having students move around the room can be very distracting for other students. I have a solution, my students NEED Safco Alpha Better Standing Desks. These desks allow students to stand up and learn, plus they have a kick bar so that the student can move their legs silently, without disturbing other kids around them but helping themselves to stay focused.
