Socially, the books and materials I have selected for my classroom are high-engagement and high-interest reading materials that are not beyond the reach or interest of my students. By providing each student with the ability to select from dozens of high-interest fiction and non-fiction books, they will begin to find enjoyment in reading and transition to making reading a life-long passion of learning and escape. I want my students to discover the joy of reading now and carry it with them forever. By giving these students dozens of books to choose from they will be enticed into a variety of writing styles and subjects. From Jedi training academy, to Judy Moody antics; from non-fiction masterpieces to the classic Cleary novels, this library of literature and non-fiction will provide the springboard to reading and daily access my students need to develop their reading habits. In addition to building my student library, obtaining an iPad mini is another goal I have. This iPad would serve as an interactive way to check books in and out of the library using proven apps. Additionally we would use the iPad in the classroom to take Accelerated Reader tests. It would also allow me to pilot the utilization of Reading Rainbow apps and website to provide even more access to books and literature in a new and interactive manner.
