A few weeks ago, I bought a few graphic novels for my classroom: Vera Brogsol's "Anya's Ghost," and Raina Telgemeier's "Drama" and "Smile." Little did I know that I these books would create such a stir. One student would read one, then pass it off to another friend or classmate. They were talking about these books during downtime in class, in the halls, and at lunch. What makes this all the more remarkable is that, for many of my students, they do not often approach reading with this level of enthusiasm or passion. I have since bought a couple more graphic novels, including the official "Fahrenheit 451" adaptation and Noelle Stevenson's "Nimona." With a larger classroom library, in particular a dedicated graphic novel section, I will no longer have a wait list for limited materials that currently plagues me.
