My students are high school freshman who by the time they reach sophomore or junior year drop out for lack of passing their core classes. They lose heart because they are disillusioned with the prospect of not graduating on time and now with the budget cuts, having to pay for summer school. They are also students held to high academic standards in preparation for advanced placement courses in history their sophomore and junior years at the school. They find the history classes boring and the books so huge they could lift weights with them. They try the best they can to keep up with their academics. They came from a middle school that has smart boards, LCD projectors, and all sorts of new technology to a high school that is lacking in these same items. Our students are now facing many cuts next year in clubs, teachers, school facilities, and sports. They hear how bad things are and look for something positive to look forward to. Please take the time to invest in their future.
