Ukuleles are simple enough to quickly learn and feel a sense of accomplishment. Giving my students an opportunity to play the Ukulele will help to build their confidence, providing them with something they can take beyond my classroom. I believe the more experience my students have in building confidence and accomplishment in my classroom, the greater their opportunity will be to move beyond their circumstances. Confidence and accomplishment are qualities they can take with them to high school, college, and job interviews beyond. In addition to these wonderful advantages, the Ukulele is an important tool in teaching chordal structures and musical expression through performance. The Ukulele aids in the development of both the ear and of personal expression. However, while musical objectives and technique can be taught through the use of the Ukulele, they are secondary to the social lessons that are being taught through the music that they will play on the Ukulele.
