With fifty-eight families and a small group of teachers, my colleague and I lead a free, extended-day school program preparing Nevada fifth graders for success in middle school and beyond. Each of our students attends classes from 7:30am in the morning to 5:00pm in the evening, five days a week. Driven by high expectations, rigorous assessments, expanded instruction, and one-of-a-kind field lessons, our team is redefining the possibilities for public education in one of the lowest performing states in the nation.
