My 7th and 8th grade Language Arts and Social Studies kids are an enthusiastic, thoughtful, intelligent, and intellectually hungry community of learners. However, not every opportunity is available to them to be successful. I utilize Donors Choose to offer opportunities they would not otherwise have. Many of my kids receive 70% or more of their daily calories from school-provided meals. At my school, 49% of students are black, 22% are Hispanic, 16% are white. For the two years 2014-15 and 2015-16, we have offered lunch at no charge to all students.
