The selection of books in my classroom library is outdated and defunct in my student's eyes. I have a wide variety of books, but kids today don't connect to the same kinds of books as they used to. Graphic novels are the present and future of reading and are the preferred genre for the majority of my students. By updating the books in my library, students will find more success in choosing an enjoyable book. With a wider selection of books in their preferred genre, my hope is that students will acquire a greater appreciation for reading. When students are more excited about reading, they will read more often, becoming stronger readers. The rationale for expanding my classroom library is two-fold: in the short term, students will engage in reading books that interest them, and in the long term, students' love of reading will grow, leading to an increased ability in reading comprehension and test scores. Please help me make reading fun again!
