I hope that after reading about boys like themselves, these students would improve their reading skills. I would hope that this book club would increase these boys' attendance and make them enjoy reading more. I also hope that these students would be able to connect with the characters and share those personal connections with the group. I started a Girls of Color book club also this year with fifth grade girls. I had it funded from another source. So far, it has been absolutely amazing! The girls have become much better friends with each other. Many of them have told me that they read the books with their moms. I want boys to have the same experience.
