The JTM Success Team is a beautiful and vibrant community of scholars with differing backgrounds. Each, with their unique and personal cultural insights, aids in supporting our community focused on achieving success. They are fifth graders, curious, and remarkably insightful scholars who have seen and overcome difficulties well past their age. A few are homeless. Most receive free and reduced lunch subsidies, and all write so many shout-outs to each other and questions on the Wonder Wall that I have to bleed class into lunch to read them. Our school is a strange place. Located next to a small but wealthy community, a few families send their children to our school to develop "real-world social skills and coping mechanisms" before going to private schools in 6th grade. Daily, my scholars look one neighborhood away to see what they only dream of. Mostly, they are children who have been overlooked. Children who feel the pangs of want, and are still young enough to trust.
