The primary goal of this project is to further the students' musical interest. The students at my schools have limited access to musical instruction. I only get to see my students, maybe once a week for a semester. Most of the small amount of allocation I receive each year goes to replace things that are worn out or broken. My goal is to prepare my students to move up to more advanced instruments and have a head start as they progress to middle school music programs. They love to sing and dance and play instruments. Most of the things they play in class are non-pitched percussion instruments. We talk a lot about melody, harmony and chords and can create them together with things like Boomwhackers, but ukuleles would allow the students to create this completely on their own. This will instill confidence and a sense of accomplishment that can not be simulated by playing a single note as part of a play along. We will use these instruments daily in class primarily with Grades 3-5, but also with primary grades when possible. They will be a part of class play and learning and they will be used for school and county performances. I know there are lots of projects out there and my students and I greatly appreciate you consideration when deciding which projects you will fund.
