Looking ahead at the year, there is so much uncertainty: will we get to return to our classroom to enjoy learning together, or will we be learning remotely for the year? Will we be able to hug our kiddos when they're having a tough day and ask for it, or will we have to comfort them from 6 feet away? In such uncertain times, my students and I will turn to books. We will take opportunities to see ourselves in mirrors, reinforcing and validating our experiences. More importantly, we will read books that provide windows into unfamiliar journeys and experiences. I have lovingly curated this list of books over the past two years to begin giving students these opportunities. While in the past, I've been able to borrow some of these titles from our school and public libraries, distance learning impedes this possibility. I hope you'll consider helping us continue to build our social intelligence and global community, beginning within the safety of our (virtual) classroom.
