My 8th grade reading and creative writing students are the future leaders in a variety of fields, in a variety of communities. Our urban, public school is a magnet for the arts and global studies. Students take core curriculum, with extracurricular classes in international studies, drama, music, or art. Our school truly is a mix of all types. These students display the perfect mix of interests, learning abilities, personalities, and cultures. Many of my students are reluctant or developing readers, trying to rediscover the passion they once had for books. Others have maintained their childhood love of stories and are working through more difficult texts to gain information about this world that they can use to be successful in college and their careers.
