Our goal is for each child to have equal access to and opportunity to experience a high quality, grade level, standards-based photography curriculum no matter which mode of schooling they choose in the fall— in person or remote. Digital Photography is an extremely popular course offered at our high school with over 150 requests for the fall semester alone. Because we are implementing a hybrid model with synchronous instruction, we will not have enough DSLR cameras for students to use in the building AND at home, simultaneously. Right now we only have 14 DSLR cameras shared among 70 students a semester. Since students are not allowed to share materials, each student will need their own supplies. This is something many families cannot afford on their own. During these unprecedented times, we do not want to compromise our students’ education, opportunity, and access to our arts curriculum by scaling things down, especially if we don’t have to. That is why I am here asking for your help. These cameras will allow all students to have an equal opportunity without having to sacrifice their health and well-being. It will allow students at home to access to the curriculum remotely, so they don’t put their immunocompromised families at risk. After the pandemic is over, these cameras will serve hundreds of students who come through our doors and allow them the opportunity to take the cameras out into the world to see, learn, explore practice, capture and create.
