I teach kindergarten in a school of wonderful students that face many challenges outside of the classroom each day. The majority of the students come from low-income homes that cannot afford to purchase basic supplies that are essential for learning. Some live in homes that often go without basic living needs, such as electricity and water; therefore, a number of these students experience school as a safe haven - a place of refuge. Although my students may face many challenges, they are still eager learners that sometimes need a little help seeing their greatness.
