How do you turn 6th, 7th, and 8th graders into readers? You provide them with high-interest, engaging books that are on their reading levels. In my class, my students are expected to read 20-40 minutes a day. Access to interesting books of various reading levels is a must in keeping adolescents engaged in reading and growing a love for reading. My dream is for students to struggle to make a book choice not because there is not anything they want to read, but because there are so many books they want to try. My goal as a teacher is to make kids better readers, and I am able to do that when I can provide students with great books that interest them and books that are on their reading level. My classroom library is the most important part of my room. It is where students come together to read and discuss books and develop a love of reading. It is where my students become better readers and expand their vocabulary. Students who excel at reading become more successful in life. Contributing to my classroom library will put my students on the path to success.
