It is very important to me that my students come into our classroom feeling safe & ready to learn! The items I've requested all play an important part in creating a warm & welcoming classroom environment, where each child feels they belong. Having a classroom that is full of enough learning materials for everyone will ensure that each child has that sense of belonging. Having access to a classroom library that is filled with developmentally appropriate books is a wonderful start for kindergarteners. Kindergarten is where they will learn to read and really explore reading materials. Story time is often their favorite time of the day! Each child would have their own book basket, which would allow me to differentiate the books for each child, based on their reading level. They would also be provided with book baggies to allow them to take certain books home, so that they can practice reading at home each night (even if they don't have books of their own). Having a calm classroom environment has a tremendous impact on young children's learning. It helps them to stay focused and feel confident. By having a warm & welcoming classroom environment and having a variety of learning / reading materials, my kindergarteners will become strong readers who are excited about learning!
