This year is the first year I am teaching at my former middle school. Not only can I relate to the difficulty of the material being learned at such a young age, I can attest that I, myself learned from these same materials as a student, and it was a struggle. My students are very eager to learn but for most of them, math is not their thing. Today students are so up-to-date with technology that when they leave their technological world at home they step into a classroom where they have to take out a book, a piece of lined paper, and a number 2 pencil, all things difficult to find in a regular household. I have learned that technology-based instruction has proven to enhance classroom engagement and that is something I would like to achieve.
