The clipboards and white boards are to help the students practice writing. The pencil grips help the students learn how to properly hold a pencil as they learn to form letters. This becomes more important the more they progress as they need to write legibly and faster, and more. The baskets help organize the students' papers, and projects, while the other bins keep the reading books organized for easy and efficient access. The book organizers are for each student to have a place of their own to keep their writing folder and guided reading books as each student learns at his or her own pace and needs individualized spaces to reduce transition times and increase productivity. These materials will help my student to learn and practice writing, and keep their reading materials organized as they work to become bilingual. In our classroom the students speak nine different languages between them. They want to be able to learn English so they can communicate with one another, as well as with the people in their new country. Learning is an action word. The students need to be able to practice forming letters, and building words, as much as they need to see the words and sentences in books. They need to become authors and poets, as they build their language skills. Skills which will aid them for the rest of their lives. I'm trying to lay a solid foundation of reading and writing so these students can build monuments and skyscrapers as they go forth and learn for decades to come.
