A document camera is desperately needed to provide optimal writing and literacy instruction. Modeling is imperative in writing instruction. Being able to model techniques while the students follow along helps boost engagement and reach struggling writers. This is an important step in the Gradual Release Model, which helps students develop vital skills. Placing a highlighted piece of text under a document camera helps to illuminate it for analysis and discussion, which increases student engagement and participation. Although students may have their own copies of the text with which to engage, having a larger visual model brings everyone to the same point of focus. This tool will greatly increase my ability to provide my students with the best instruction.
