I am a first year moderate severe special day class teacher, in a metropolitan urban school district. My classroom consists of non-verbal students sixth through eighth grade. My students have various exceptionalities: low functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectually Disabled, other health impairments, and speech and language impairments, just to name a few. They require immense sensory support to complete daily academic tasks.
