"It's boring." This is something that I hear multiple times a day from my students. As their teacher, I know that their reluctance about reading comes from many different aspects of their lives. A majority of them are below grade level with their reading and they struggle to understand what is happening in their books. They also have separate lives at home that don't allow them to sit down and read, because they are worried about so many other things. The students at our school come from low income families where books were not the priority, because they worried about where their next meal will come from or if the lights will be on when they get home. I feel as though many of my students need to get back to the basics of reading, and actually finishing, a good book. I have some students who have never finished a book and for them to be able to say "Yes! I finished a book!" would be one of the most amazing moments.
