I love bringing science to students who may have never really experienced solving problems with hands-on learning before!! In 7th grade we study the local environment, the human body, and more. My 160 seventh grade students are a diverse population from families of farmers, nurses, teachers, engineers, members of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, and more. We are a historically rural area that is rapidly becoming more suburban. Due to our proximity to a large Naval Base, we have a lot of mobility in our population of students. 10% of my students receive services for special education and 30% of them receive free or reduced meals. My students strive for success daily and benefit from learning to problem solve to learn scientific concepts with teamwork and critical thinking.
