I teach at a Title 1 school. Most of my students come from low-income households and are considered at-risk. Many of them come from less than desirable home situations with many obstacles thrown their way to overcome. More often than not school is the most stable part of their life. Most of my kids walk to school alongside their parents and have never been further than walking distance from their house. They lack many life experiences due to lack of exposure. For 80% of my students English is not their first language or the language spoken at home. While these kids have many obstacles in front of them, they come to school each day excited and ready to learn. Each day they soak up more knowledge and try their hardest to succeed. They strive to meet the high expectations that I set for them each day and continue to push themselves to learn new things.
