My 60 middle school general music students are very bright and motivated to learn about music. We study general music through instruments not typically found in a band or orchestra setting. So far, they have mastered playing the ukulele while reading rhythms, melodies, and harmony parts. Their favorite song to perform in "I Lava You", the Pixar short, which they learned by ear. My 35 high school chorus students focus on the fundamentals of music through reading solfege, reading rhythms using numbers, and applying fundamental skills of vocal performance to beginning repertoire.
