My middle school science students are predominantly English language learners, and many are refugees. They come from Somalia, Syria, the Congo, Burundi, Nepal, Burma, Thailand, Iraq, Jordan, Rwanda, Sudan, Guatemala, Mexico, the United States, and many other countries! Many of our students have never had the privilege of attending school before they came here. Our time in science class helps these students understand the world around them, and to gain English language skills through working together on projects and laboratory exercises. As a Utah charter school, we do not have much of a budget for lab supplies or field learning experiences. I hope that some of the wonderful, generous people who use DonorsChoose can help us make science super hands-on for these deserving students!
