The Hands on Equations program will be used as a self-exploration unit along side the Connected Math Program Variables and Patterns Text we use every spring. For many of my students the grade level textbook is very abstract. By using this program, students will have the opportunity to use manipulative to balance algebraic equations. Hands on Equations will provide a concrete context for algebra rather than an abstract one. Students will be able to turn in completed work and progress through the program independently with the files folders and storage unit. Additionally, students will use the white boards and dry erase markers to demonstrate knowledge of balancing equations without the manipulative in later portions of the curriculum.
