Do you remember second grade? Do you remember learning how to read longer and bigger books? Second grade is a year of change and growth, both socially and academically. This year, I have a class of 24 lively second graders who just LOVE school. They are a diverse group socio-economically and culturally. As they begin to read bigger and longer books, they are amping up their reading power. They are learning how to add and subtract numbers in the hundreds. They are a happy, energetic bunch and spend their free time reading books, writing in their free-write journal, and playing math learning games. Of course their favorite time of day is the THREE recesses they get where they can hang out with their friends. Second grade students are eager to learn and thrive on seeing, touching, transforming, and exploring the things around them. They love to learn.
