My school is located in Queens, NY and is entirely devoted to students diagnosed with autism. There are eight students in my classroom and while they are second and third graders, their reading levels range from kindergarten through fifth grade. It is my second or third year working with some of these students, and it's amazing to see how they have progressed from not knowing their ABC's, to reading, over the course of just a few years. Most students in my class receive free lunch and do not have access to a literary environment at home. I want to make sure that their school environment can give them everything possible to promote their love of reading.
