Giving students new novels they can share with community members during an evening of reading and discussing literature not only builds literacy in a community, but also builds speaking, listening, and empathy skills. The list of novels and dates for students and community members to come together to discuss the novels in small groups will be shared monthly. Students and other stakeholders are able to connect with one another and build a culture that will be able to bring a community together. Many of the novels are chosen in connection to the genres my students have shown interest in reading.
