First graders need continual and varied opportunities to build number sense. Hands-on materials coupled with kinesthetic activities/daily routines really make a difference. The ETA Hand2Mind Rekenrek class set will allow me to teach whole class or small group. The Learning Advantage dot and ten frame card set and the Junior Learning 50 Ten Frame Activities can be used in direct teaching lessons as well as independent practice. The more fluent and comfortable my students can be with sets of 5 and 10, the stronger mathematicians they will be across the board! These activities can be modified to meet the needs of all levels of students, but especially those students struggling with understanding number values. These materials will help me start off the 2018-2019 school year STRONG!
