My third grade students come from all economic backgrounds with a wide range of learning abilities and skill levels. We are a rural school within a large school corporation with about one third of our students from lower income households. Since we are not a Title 1 school, there is very little funding for extra classroom materials. We are fortunate to have wonderful family support, but we need additional items in the classroom to help students have a solid basic skills Third grade is a transitional year when children leave the primary grades and enter the world of standardized testing and more responsibility for their learning. My students are curious, fun loving kids who love hands on learning and need activities that encourage independence and responsibility for their learning.
