Maker space offers students a chance for hands on learning. By reading and following instructions, students' creativity is activated as they discover how to construct a miniature balance beam, build a house with Legos or created Rapunzel's tower using blocks. The Maker Space program benefits all students, and the program incorporates all learning styles.. Students use their spatial skills to solve a problem. Reading skills are practiced and experimentation is key. Teamwork is another plus: students work together until they have mastered the skill. The Maker Space program encourages integration between the subjects. A student may read about a playground in book, then use his/her math and science skills to construct a model see saw. Although housed in the media center, the Maker Space program will be accessible to all students, K-5.
