My students range from ninth grade to eleventh grade. I have students from Mexico, France, Vietnam, China, Ukraine, Puerto Rico, and Uruguay. Some of the students have been in the United States for several years, while others have come from their country just this school year. Speaking English often occurs quickly for many of the students, but reading is a challenge for all of them. Most of my students are intimidated to use the school library, and especially the public libraries, due to the lack of confidence in their English speaking skills. Often times their parents are not fluent in English and are unable to assist them. By making books readily accessible in the classroom, students will have more opportunities to read books that are of interest to them. Also, as it takes longer for my students to read, they will not have to be concerned with "being able to finish the book on time" because of due dates. Students will be able to keep books as long as they desire.
