Written communication is an important part of our daily lives. To help practice and master this skill, my students need the extra support of step-by-step modeling of written tasks. The sustained focus and attention that is needed to brainstorm, edit, and produce effective writing are also skills we are still developing at this grade level. Keeping the attention of all students while editing or providing specific feedback to students can be a challenge. A document camera will allow me to turn individual lessons and worksheets into interactive learning experiences. I will be able to provide my students with modeling of assignments on worksheets projected for the whole class to view, rather than to one student at a time. Like the overhead projectors of the past, a document camera would allow me to demonstrate all the steps of written tasks for my whole group of students at the same time. They will become more proficient in their writing and as well confident in their skills by sharing in the writing process at every stage. A document camera will help my students be more engaged in writing activities and able to avoid the commons pitfalls of shortened attention spans and the ability to focus! By donating to our project, you can be a part of providing my students with technology which will improve overall attention and focus as well as their ability to become more proficient writers.
