My students come from a variety of communities across this large metropolitan district. They range from children from homeless environments to children from affluent families. With the age range between nine and twelve, students show a natural curiosity for science. Studies show that girls, in particular, need to have a high interest in science by age ten. Because of that particular reason, and because some of these children come from rather hopeless and dreamless situations, I encourage the path to STEM fields. Despite the variety of backgrounds, when students get near a science activity, they focus intently. The more interesting and compelling the project is, the more they reach toward it. Students have regularly asked to spend recess in the science lab. They consider it a place of learning and as a highly interest place to spend their play time.
